Compact Dry BC
- Ready and easy to use portable plate: Preparation of medium is not required, which eliminates waste of medium as well as sterilizing apparatus to prepare the medium.
- Detection of colonies on plate is simple and clear.
- Single colonies on the plate can be isolated for further identification tests
The »ready-to-use« Compact Dry X-BC plate from HyServe combines the properties of chromogenic dry media and gel contact plates. It is used for the quantitative detection of Bacillus cereus in food samples. The bacterium Bacillus cereus produces grampositive spores and is commonly found in soil and water. Therefore, it enters the food processing chain relatively easily. Bacillus cereus can contaminate foods; furthermore, its emetic and diarrhoeagenic enterotoxins cause vomiting and diarrhoea after consumption. Routine testing procedures for Bacillus cereus are thus recommended. A simple and certified method for this is: Compact Dry X-BC. After applying the sample (1 ml), the dehydrated Compact Dry X-BC plate becomes gel-like. The sample self diffuses evenly. Further steps, for example manual spreading, are not required.
Compact Dry X-BC has been validated to ISO 16140 against the reference method (EN ISO 7932:2004) for the detection of Bacillus cereus. Compact Dry X-BC is also MicroVal (No. 2011-LR41) and NordVal (No. 045) approved. The ready-to-use plate can therefore be routinely applied by certified users.

Sample pretreatment
Viable count in water or liquid foodstuff
Drop 1 ml of specimen (dilute if necessary) on the middle of the Compact Dry plate.
Viable count in solid foodstuff
Add buffer solution to the sample and homogenize by stomacher®. Drop 1 ml of specimen (dilute if necessary) in the middle of the dry sheet of the Compact Dry plate.
Viable count in swab test specimen
Use the swab to wipe the surface, put into the device with wiping solution. Drop 1 ml of wiping solution (dilute if necessary) in the middle of the Compact Dry plate. It is recommended to use 'Swab for Compact Dry' offered by HyServe Id-No. 1 002 952/3 (40/240 pieces).
Test instructions
Open the cap and drop 1 ml of specimen in the middle of the Compact Dry plate.
Specimen diffuses automatically and evenly into the sheet and transforms the dried sheet into a gel within seconds.
Put the cap again on the plate and write the information needed on the memorandum section.
Turn over the capped plate and put in the incubator.
After incubation count the number of light blue/blue colonies. White paper placed under the plate helps to count the colonies.
